Attorney general to consider Baby P sentencing

June 1, 2009

The attorney general is to review the sentences handed down over the death of Baby P last week.

It has been announced today Baroness Scotland will examine the case papers to decide whether the sentences were “unduly lenient” and should be referred to the Court of Appeal.

Last Friday, Baby Peter’s mother was jailed indefinitely, to serve a minimum of five years, after being found guilty of causing or allowing his death.

His mother’s boyfriend was also jailed for life, with a minimum period of ten years, over the rape of a two-year-old girl. He was also handed a 12-year prison sentence to run concurrently for causing or allowing Peter’s death.
